NBA All Star Weekend Preview:

NBA All Star Weekend Preview:

The unofficial “half way” point of the season, the All Star Weekend, is upon us.

The Celebrity game kicks us off on Saturday which is always a good laugh. Quavo has been training extra hard for this game so look for him to have a big one and take out the MVP honours (unless Kevin Hart happens to randomly come in and steal it from him!).

Saturday finishes up with the Rising Stars Challenge, Team USA taking on Team World.

Our very own Ben Simmons is listed for Team World, but I wouldn’t expect him to play a great deal, given he was selected to play in the All Star Game Monday morning.

The game will be headlined by the likes of DeAaron Fox, Kyle Kuzma, Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum for Team USA, while the likes of Rookie Phenom Luka Doncic and number 1 overall pick DeAndre Ayton will try and get the World boys over the line again.

This game always tends to be a bit of fun, but you get the feeling after last year’s result, the USA boys will look to put a little bit of hurt on the Team World boys.

The Sunday ticket is always the most hyped night of the weekend, with the Skills Challenge, 3 point shoot-out and Slam Dunk comp taking place.

The Skills Challenge is completely wide open. I can see either of the 4 guards going through. If you had to pick one, DeAaron Fox is the one to take out the title in Charlotte.

The 3 Point Shoot Out showcases the battle between brothers Steph and Seth Curry which will no doubt have the Charlotte crowd buzzing! The Curry boys are local juniors, and you can guarantee bragging rights are on the line when the two go toe to toe in the shoot-out.

With the likes of Devin Booker also on hand, as well as Buddy Hield and home town boy Kemba Walker, the Curry boys won’t have it all their own way!

Finally, the Dunk Comp wraps everything up on Sunday, and it’s an extremely athletic field.

Dennis Smith Jr is the favourite to take out the contest, but Charlottes own Miles Bridges may have something to say about it. The athletic rookie will look to show his power dunks in front of this hyped up crowd!

Monday’s big event, Team LeBron takes on Team Giannis. Giannis made a point of picking first time all stars, even beating out LeBron to his best buddy Ben Simmons (before being traded to Team LeBron for Russell Westbrook).

Team LeBron are the heavy favourites in this one, more athletic and much smaller than the line up Giannis has gone with. But Giannis has one secret weapon up his sleeve, Kemba Walker.

Kemba is playing an All Star Game in his arena, an arena he’s set plenty of records in. Kemba is going to have a monster game, a game that may very well see him win MVP, and it’s been known in All Star Game history to give out MVP awards to the home town man. That may also go to Steph Curry, given he’s also a home town kid!

LeBron’s team may be heavily favoured, but given it’s an All Star Game, it’s sure to be tight going into the last qtr. Anything can happen from there.

Giannis’ team has guys who want to win this game bad, Kemba being one. As well as Russell Westbrook, who may see red given LeBron actually traded him out of his team for Simmons. It’ll be extremely interesting to see anyway, that and the fact Westbrook and Embiid line up on the same team, and we all know they simply don’t get along!

It’s going to be an awesome weekend in Charlotte, plenty of unknowns heading in and nothing a sure thing coming into the weekend (maybe only Steph to win the 3 point shoot-out!)

Enjoy and let us know who you think will be taking out all the events over the weekend!
