Golden State are banged up. No Durant, Klay has done his Hammy, Steph was crook and now Looney is out indefinitely with a collarbone injury. Yet somehow this series is tied up at 1 apiece leaving Toronto.
Never underestimate the heart of a champion. Draymond Green is willing this team to the finish line, and Golden State wouldn’t be in the position they are without him. Currently, he should be favoured to win Finals MVP, he’s been that good!
Andre Iguodala hit the game clinching 3 with 6 seconds to play in Game 2, after a mad scramble for the ball, it found its way to him with a few seconds left on the shot clock, and he was naked at the 3 point line. A shot I’m sure Toronto would deal with late in the game. He nailed it, sinking a crazy Toronto crowd (and Drake), and gave them a much needed lift going into Game 3 on Thursday.
Pascal Siakam wasn’t able to produce the heroics he came up with in Game 1, going 5-18 in game 2. Kawhi was almost a one man band (34 points), but had help from Fred VanVleet, who continues to put up monster numbers since the birth of his son.
Toronto needs the likes of Siakam and Lowry to fire in this series. Lowry has been non-existent in the opening 2 games, and just isn’t good enough for an All Star point guard. His hand injury may be playing a part in this, but he’s got to find a way, it’s the NBA Finals!
With all these injuries to Golden State, it opens up the door for our very own Andrew Bogut to play some key minutes backing up Cousins now in this series. Bogut was huge for Golden State in their game 2 win, finishing around the basket, and just doing the simple things needed to help them get a win.
Quinn Cook is another guy taking advantage of all their injuries, with a huge performance in Game 2. He hit some huge 3s down the stretch, getting them out of a hole, given the lack of scoring down the stretch in Game 2 from both teams.
Expect Toronto to fight back in Game 3, especially if Klay isn’t playing. If there’s ever a moment for the Raptors to strike it has to be now.
But beware the walking wounded!
