Trusting the Process

How exciting has the NBA been to start the season!

Australia’s own, Ben Simmons, and the Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo are two of the young stars taking the league by storm in its early days.

This season’s ‘Trash Talk’ is taking on a new direction.

I’ll be shouting out my Team of the Week, Player of the Week and Game of the week.

Our Team of the Week goes to Australia’s new favourite, the Philadelphia 76ers.

Philly have looked a different team to start this season with Simmons running the show at the point. His ability to rack up incredible numbers without a consistent jump shot is mindboggling.

Joel Embiid has proven to be unstoppable, it’s even scarier now he is playing more minutes than last season. Throw in, Robert Covington, who has basically sewn up the Most Improved Award already and the process has been trusted.

With Philadelphia having a top heavy schedule early on in the season, a 50-win season isn’t out of the question.

Player of the Week: Ben Simmons.

To say he’s been impressive would be an understatement. After sitting out the entire last season Simmons had his critics waiting with baited breath on opening day. He has come out this season looking like a younger version of LeBron James, and NBA fans worldwide are beyond excited.

Over the past week Simmons posted a near triple double average of 14.3 PPG, 9.7RPG and 8.7 APG. Simmons led the Sixers to two wins over both LA teams and was near flawless in a loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Game of the week: Golden State @ Philly 124-116

This game was special.

Philly scored an amazing 47 points in the first quarter which not only stunned the Warriors but stunned the basketball world. They beat them at their own game from the 3-point line with Covington going crazy.

Simmons posted 23 points (11-15 from the field), 8 rebounds and 12 assists. One of hell of a stat line.

The Sixers led by 22 at half time and looked unbeatable. That was until Golden State had a 47-15 point quarter of their own in the 3rd. That half time lead evaporated as you could imagine, quite quickly.

Philly went on to lose the game 124-116, but this team is for real. They pushed the greatest team in basketball to their absolute limit.

Looking ahead for the week, Philly will have another exciting contest on Thursday, going head to head with Damian Lillard and the Portland Trailblazers. Look for some points to be scored in that match.

There are a lot of people trusting the process and it’s clear to see why! The Philadelphia 76ers are no joke, and the future may be right now for these kids!

Until next time,

Dave Bauk
