The 2021 Los Angeles Lakers City Edition Swingman is a throwback to the ’60s, and in honour of the 60th anniversary of the Minneapolis Lakers’ relocation to Los Angeles for the 1960-61 season. The Lakers franchise predominantly wore blue, not switching to purple and gold until the late 1960s.
In 2017, when Nike became the official uniform and apparel supplier for the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers introduced their Lore Series uniforms, which are uniforms designed by some of the greatest players to ever don the purple and gold. Designers include Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson and Shaquille O'Neal. This year's Lore Series pays homeage to Hall of Famer, Elgin Baylor, featured at the bottom of the City jersey. Baylor played 2 seasons in Minneapolis before they moved to LA.
The City Edition jerseys honour the fans who get down to their local arena, and whose passions help define each respective team’s identity.
