We are a month into the NBA season and some teams have made some early statements.
Brooklyn are going about their business at 10-5, sitting 3rd in the East, 1 game back of Washington in 1st. Yes, Washington!
The Wizards have opened the season 10-3, and it’s fair to say no one saw that coming.
Washington acquired a bunch of Ex Lakers players in an off-season trade with Russell Westbrook moving out West.
Little did we know, these acquisitions would have a huge say in a Wizards surge to start the season.
Montrezl Harrell was an afterthought in the purple and gold last season, yet is one of the leading candidates for 6th Man of the Year honours this year.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has fit in very nicely with Bradley Beal, as well as their biggest off-season signing from the Brooklyn Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie.
Dinwiddie was the missing piece in that Brooklyn Nets team last season. There is no doubt that if he's healthy, they win the title. He is that good!
It’s hard to see this team sustaining this start to the season, but with a few bigger teams off to a slow start, they have a chance to stretch out an early season lead!
Chicago sit just behind the Wizards at 10-4, and they made plenty of noise in the off-season to get off to this kind of start.
DeMar DeRozan came across from the Spurs along with Lonzo Ball from the Pels, to form a formidable “Big 4” with Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic.
Speaking of Lakers outcasts, Alex Caruso also came across to Chicago and is already a fan favourite. It’s hard not to love a guy who plays with that much energy!
Chicago have a few big scalps to start the season, with wins over the Nets as well as the LA double on the road.
This team is for real, and they’ll be making some noise come playoff time, which will have Bulls fans licking their lips!!
It’s also hard not to touch on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
I’ll give it up if anyone saw this team sitting at 9-6 to start the season!
This team made some key moves in the off-season, acquiring a veteran PG in Ricky Rubio (coming off another big international campaign), as well as drafting stud big man Evan Mobley.
Mobley is the early season Rookie of the Year favourite, but the Cavs will be doing without their star Rookie for the next 2-4 weeks with an elbow injury.
Are they for Real? It’s very easy to get carried away and say yes!
They play incredibly hard and rank 2nd on the defensive end of the floor, allowing just above 100 PPG.
They’ll put themselves in positions to win a lot of games playing defence like that!!
Heading out West, Phoenix have started the season strong with a 10-3 record.
There’s no NBA Finals hangover for this team, and will be right in the thick of things come playoff time.
Unfortunately for Phoenix, they’re in the same division as the hottest team in basketball right now!
Golden State are absolutely flying, starting the season 12-2, and coming off an emphatic win in Brooklyn today!
Steph Curry has been lights out to start the season, but as good as Steph has been, it’s their defence that is the biggest talking point.
Whilst Golden State average a league best 115 PPG, they only allow just below 102 PPG, which sits them in 3rd place in the league.
Klay Thompson is still due back into this line up, and if they get themselves a healthy Klay, the West has themselves a big favourite going forward!
