Christmas In July

Christmas In July

Christmas in July

It was Christmas in July at Throwback, with plenty of presents for all Basketball fans!

Three Aussie Hoops Superstars came into the store, firstly with Dyson Daniels (New Orleans Pelicans) and Xavier Cooks (Washington Wizards) making an appearance last Tuesday.

They were followed by Josh Green (Dallas Mavericks) making his presence felt on Thursday night, with both appearances from the 3 Boomers squad members a huge success and there was plenty of love in the room from all!

Before the NBA Stars appearances, global shoe giant Li-Ning arrived to the store, which was another big night for the team.

The Li-Ning brand isn’t short or suitors, with superstars Dwyane Wade (Way of Wade) and Jimmy Butler leading the show for a brand which is exploding worldwide.

The Basketball world tends to get a little quiet in July, with NBA off-season in full swing, and only NBA Summer League to speak of.

It was fitting that two NBA Summer League stand outs were first to step through the doors, with Dyson Daniels looking to leap into the regular Pels rotation  in a team that will be fighting for a playoff spot this season.

Daniels had a big summer league for the Pels, averaging just over 14.5 PPG, just over 7 RPG (7.2) and just shy of 6.5 APG (6.4).

New Orleans are a team who could really be anything this season, with much of this reliant on Zion Williamson. If Zion is back in the rotation for the Pels, this team could make some serious noise, and with Daniels having another year under his belt (and with the Pels being skinny at the guard position), Daniels has a chance to end the season being a key piece to the Pelicans puzzle.

Xavier Cooks is in a far different situation with the Wizards, but it’s perfect for him within his role in the team.

Washington don’t figure to be on anyone’s playoff radar, and with moving on from Kristaps Porzingis in the off-season, that opens up a spot for Cooks to move up the order in the front court depth chart. Cooks figures to be behind the likes of Kuzma and Gafford, but there’s no reason to believe he couldn’t be a prime back up to either, especially if he lands a spot in the Boomers World Cup team!

Both Dyson and Xavier were incredible with everyone who came through on Tuesday morning, and hopefully will have their tickets punched to the World Cup in a few weeks with camp getting underway in Cairns.

The final appearance came with Josh Green, a bright young star for the Dallas Mavericks in a team who will be looking to make up for last season’s poor finish.

Dallas return Kyrie Irving to the team, pairing him up with Luka Doncic to make a run at the top of the Western Conference. There’s every chance Josh can see himself starting at Small Forward this season, especially with a big World Cup campaign.

He’s joined this season by fellow Boomer Dante Exum, with both the Aussies pushing for similar minutes, and it wouldn’t hurt to have them both on the floor at the same time!

Josh was great with all fans at the store, and will look even better in the Green and Gold in a few weeks!

It’s a big couple of weeks for our Boomers hopefuls, with the squad of 15 to be named shortly after camp in Cairns, leading into the warm up games down in Melbourne in a couple of weeks.

All games will be live on ESPN!

Cheers
Bauky
